The Greatest of All Time (GOAT, 2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

What Happens to Jeevan, Gandhi’s Son?

For most men, family comes first, but sometimes, the job has to take the top spot to keep everyone safe and secure, including their loved ones. Even then, a man will do his best to juggle both worlds—work and home. Gandhi, from “The Greatest of All Time,” is one of those men. He’s part of RAW’s anti-terrorist squad, constantly working, traveling from one country to another on classified missions. At the start of the film, we find Gandhi in the Kenyan desert, pursuing a notorious terrorist named Omar and seizing the weapon-grade plutonium Omar just bought off the black market. But no rest for the wicked. Right after this mission, Gandhi is told that he’ll be off to Thailand in a few weeks for another critical operation.

Anu, Gandhi’s wife, believes her husband works in sales, along with his colleagues. She thinks all the travel is just for meeting foreign clients. Gandhi tries hard to balance his work and home life, but his job often spills over, disordering with his personal time. He’s constantly coming home late and rarely available to drop or pick up their son, Jeevan, from school. With a second baby on the way, Anu has to visit the clinic weekly for check-ups. But more often than not, she handles it all alone due to Gandhi’s hectic schedule. This makes Anu suspicious, and she starts thinking her husband might be seeing someone else.

When Anu’s father spots Gandhi in Chennai, her worst fears seem confirmed. She’s convinced Gandhi is having an affair. Heartbroken, she confronts him, but Gandhi reveals that he’s not in sales and works for the anti-terrorist squad with Indian Intelligence. When she doesn’t buy the story, Gandhi explains that his Chennai trip was to sort out visa permissions for a family vacation to Thailand. His colleagues, Kalyan and Sunil, warn him that mixing work and family is a bad move, but Gandhi insists he can handle it.

Things take a dark turn on the last day of their trip. A gang attacks Gandhi, and while he manages to protect his pregnant wife, Jeevan is kidnapped from the hospital. Gandhi tries to find his son. Soon, his world crumbles when the body of a five-year-old boy matching Jeevan’s description is discovered.

Why Did Gandhi & Anu Separate?

Jeevan’s death shatters Anu, and she starts blaming Gandhi for their son’s tragic fate because, after all, it was Gandhi who took them to Thailand, knowing the risks. This drives a wedge between them, eventually leading to their separation. Sixteen years have passed. However, Gandhi still carries the weight of that guilt, blaming himself for everything that went wrong. He left his old job behind and now works a simple, risk-free job at Chennai airport. He has a sixteen-year-old daughter, but she lives with Anu. Gandhi is allowed to see his daughter, but only under strict conditions such as staying far away from his old life in intelligence.

Whom did Gandhi Meet in Moscow?

Kalyan ropes Gandhi into a trip to Moscow, asking him to train immigration officers at the newly opened Indian Embassy. However, things get heated fast because locals are furious about the embassy and are stirring up riots, demanding its closure. Among the rioters is Jeevan, Gandhi’s son, who was thought to be dead all these years.

Turns out, the body they found in Thailand wasn’t his. Jeevan has no memory of his past, so he never reached out to his parents. When Jeevan spots Gandhi at the embassy, everything comes flooding back. He warns his father about the Faisal gang and tells him to leave Moscow, but Gandhi doesn’t want to leave without his son. The Faisal gang chases them down. Fortunately, Gandhi escapes and brings his son back to India.

Why did Jeevan kill Nazeer & Ajay?

Gandhi’s ex-boss, Nazeer, calls for an urgent meeting at the Morris Hotel, but before Nazeer can explain anything, he’s taken out by a masked assassin, who shockingly turns out to be none other than Gandhi’s own son, Jeevan. Things spiral quickly—during the investigation, it’s revealed that before he died, Nazeer had extracted some sensitive data from his computer onto his phone. So, it is evident that Nazeer was silenced to keep that intel buried. To find Nazeer’s killer, Gandhi agrees to rejoin the squad. With one of his old squad members, Ajay, Gandhi tries to cover Nazeer’s phone, but Jeevan kills Ajay in cold blood.

Why would Jeevan, Gandhi’s son, kill his father’s friends? It all goes back to that mission in Kenya. Remember Menon, the corrupt RAW agent Gandhi and his team tried to capture. Omar was killed in the blast, but Menon somehow survived. Unfortunately, Menon’s wife and two kids were also on that train and died in the explosion. Ever since then, Menon’s been hell-bent on ruining Gandhi’s life. He finally saw his opening in Thailand, spotting Gandhi and his family. Menon kidnapped Jeevan and subjected him to unspeakable torture. Menon then “rescued” Jeevan, raising him under the alias Sanjay to turn him against his father. Jeevan’s been brainwashed for revenge. Now he’s in Chennai to finish the job and take out Gandhi, giving Menon his revenge.

Menon almost gets into trouble with the Chennai Harbor police, but Jeevan kidnaps Srinidhi (Sunil’s daughter), forcing Gandhi and Sunil to release Menon or risk losing her. Also, Kalyan, Gandhi’s long-time colleague, has been playing both sides all along. He’s been working with Menon from the start, feeding him information. It was Kalyan who tipped Jeevan off that Nazeer had critical evidence about Menon, setting the whole thing in motion.

The Greatest of All Time (GOAT, 2024) Movie Ending Explained:

Will Gandhi Sacrifice His Son to Stop Menon’s Deadly Plot?

After scanning the harbor’s security footage, Gandhi uncovers that Menon is alive and hiding right under his nose in Chennai. Gandhi also figures out that his own son, Jeevan, has been working alongside Menon and is the one responsible for killing Nazeer and Ajay. As Jeevan sits in the interrogation room, Menon kidnaps Anu and demands Jeevan’s release so he can finish his plan.

But what exactly is Menon plotting? For years, he’s been brainwashing Jeevan, molding him to destroy the city that Gandhi holds dear. Menon’s final order is for Jeevan to detonate a bomb at a packed cricket stadium, killing thousands. The fallout would be catastrophic. Gandhi and his family would be branded as traitors. Gandhi would be forced to live in the shadows like Menon once did. However, Gandhi has been one step ahead of Menon the whole time. He knew about the bomb, knew Jeevan was a pawn, and even knew that Kalyan was a snake in the grass. Gandhi knew Kalyan was the one who strangled Srinidhi to death. Gandhi turned himself in just to find out the bomb’s exact location.

Moreover, he knows that Jeevan, aka Sanjay, would never hurt Menon, no matter how far gone he was. So, Gandhi brings Menon to the cricket stadium, hoping that Jeevan would hesitate before triggering the explosives. A struggle breaks out between father and son. Despite his love for his son, Gandhi makes the impossible decision to kill Jeevan.

The Greatest of All Time (GOAT, 2024) Post-Credit Movie Scene Explained:

In post-credit scenes, we learn that the Jeevan Gandhi faced in Chennai wasn’t even the real Jeevan—it was a clone! This means that the Jeevan Gandhi encountered in Moscow was also a fake. As the scene goes on, we see the real Jeevan walking into his lab, a place teeming with high-tech gadgetry and a machine used for biological cloning. Jeevan is now creating a new variant of himself, which he’ll send after Gandhi again, hoping they’ll not fail this time.
